ADD, ADHD versus Vitamins

Still under construction..so this my not be finished yet:)

Could YOU or Your CHILD make the switch?

Keep in mind, most children and some adults do not get enough vitamins from the foods they eat.  If they are “picky” eaters, and dislike vegetables, fruit, milk and dairy products, or are a vegetarian (do not eat meat), getting the proper vitamins is even more important, since they are not getting them at all from skipping those foods all together. In some cases, where the individual has intestinal problems, the body may not be absorbing the vitamins it needs.

It is believed by some researchers that individuals with attention deficit disorders, depression, dyslexia, Asperger’s Syndrome, and other learning disabilities, that the body may need additional vitamins to meet that individual’s bodies particular need, making it harder for the body to focus and concentrate, hindering the immune system, can cause muscle and bone deformities or frailty, can cause sleeping problems, hyper-activity or excitability, and extreme emotional reactions.

For those with true mental disorders or psychiatric diagnoses, such as bi-polar, schizophrenia, or other psychotic problems, vitamins are most likely not going to help in which case, other prescribed medications are a necessity. In any case, DO NOT JUST MAKE THE SWITCH WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR. Some prescriptions have extreme side-effects if taken away too quickly and the patient may need to be weened off the medication

For some children and adults with ADD, ADHD, or the others, this switch to Vitamins many not help in the slightest and the only solution is the pharmaceutical drugs designed to help these conditions. Unfortunately though, there are doctors out there prescribing ADD medicines without truly diagnosing if the child has ADD and they don't bother to question the parent that is just too busy to allow their child to be a child and would prefer to have them calm and wanting these drugs as a way to keep that child from interfering into their own lives. If your doctor is insistent on prescribing the drugs and you really feel you want to try the vitamin route, you may need to find another doctor who is willing to listen to your concerns and is concerned more about your child's well-being, rather than making money from the drug companies.
